Description of resource: The mission of the Department of Veteran’s Services is to advocate on behalf of all the Commonwealths veterans and provide them with quality support services and to direct an emergency financial assistance program for those veterans and their dependents who are in need. Additionally, the Veteran’s Hospice Homestead, located in Fitchburg, provides care to terminally ill veterans, and has a mobile medical van that travels through Central Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire providing Health Care Screenings to veterans that have trouble getting to other VA health facilities. State benefits are available in the following areas: Chapter 115 Benefits (provides financial assistance to veterans in need with food, housing, clothing, employment and medical and burial assistance), Bonuses, Property, Sales and Excise Tax, Massachusetts Veteran’s and VA National Cemetery, Annuities, Public Housing, Employment, Veterans License Plates, Women Veteran’s Network, Record Retention, Educational Assistance, Soldiers’ Homes, Outreach, and Housing Services, Medical Mobile Van and Hospice Care.
